The good use of drills and bits according to holes to be drilled
The high speed wood twist drills are intended for all the drillings on wood with through hole or not, for hard or soft wood materials.
Hex-shank single-spur auger bits are intended for the very precise drilling of through holes, even in a very big thickness of material (360 mm of useful drilling). Only use in brace
The carpenter are using auger bits with single or double twist. The result is not of a big finish and justify itself only for big works.
The spade bits are intended for the manufacturing of blind holes . For example, to make grooves, bled
For the particular works:
- Housing of countersink screw: use a conical burr.
- Embedding of parts of hardware: countersink and Forstner bits (are also used to make " jump knots ").
Basic speeds for using the drilling machine
Up to diameter 10 mm, adjust the drilling machine to 3000 T / min (for average or hard wood). Beyond diameter 10 mm, adjust to 1500 T / min. In the case of a soft wood, these speeds can pass to 500 T / min more. The reasonable increase of the speed improves the finish of the work.
Particular cases
The drilling of the laminate
Use only wood drill bits and not wood auger bits. For small diameters, it is possible to use drill bits for metals (up to 6-7 mm). Beyond, use a brad point wood drill bit.
For the big diameters, operate with a tool-trepan. The working speed can vary from 500 to 1000 T / min. To obtain clean finish on the bottom of the piece, double always this one with a piece of wood which will avoid projections. As a general rule, the laminate is easier to leak out when it is already stuck on its support.
The drilling with an unscrewing and screwing machine
It is the casual work which avoids the change of tool in the course of progress. Use then an hex-shank drill bit suitable for the special chuck of this machine. This type of drill bit exists in the standard diameters from 3 to 6 mm .
